Historical Facial Reconstruction

In addition to forensic cases, both 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional facial reconstruction on the skull may be used for cases of historical significance. Though the same basic methodology is used, additional details of clothing, jewelry or other accoutrements may be added as historically appropriate for enhancement of the drawing or sculpture.

Potential uses:
• Museum applications
• Book illustrations
• Research projects
• Television productions

Example (above) of 3-D facial reconstruction done by Betty Pat. Gatliff on a skull from the Little Big Horn Battlefield in Montana, site of Custer’s Last Stand. After the sculpture was shown on a television documentary in 1990, he was identified as
Sgt. Batzer.
