BPG's FAQs

For Betty Pat. Gatliff

What are the prerequisites for your forensic art workshops?

The workshop Forensic Art: Basic Facial Reconstruction Sculpture has no absolute prerequisites. Of course, having an artistic background is sometimes helpful. Anthropology training is also beneficial, but not a requirement.

The workshop Forensic Art: Advanced Facial Reconstruction Sculpture has a prerequisite of successful completion of my basic workshop. No other workshop in drawing or sculpture will qualify you for this workshop.

What can I do to prepare for your workshops?
Since it will be used as a textbook in class, I suggest that you purchase Forensic Art and Illustration by Karen T. Taylor. Familiarize yourself with the following chapters:

Chapter 3 The Human Face
Chapter 11 Skull Protection and Preparation for Reconstruction
Chapter 12 Two-Dimensional Facial Reconstruction from the Skull
Chapter 13 Three-Dimensional Facial Reconstruction on the Skull

Will attending the forensic art workshops certify me as a Composite Artist or Facial Reconstruction Specialist?

No. At the end of the workshops, you are given a Certificate of Attendance, which only means that you have successfully completed a 5-day workshop with me at the stated location and on the stated dates. The only professional certification that exists in the field of forensic art, under the auspices of a professional organization, is with the International Association for Identification (IAI). The IAI certification in Forensic Art is for the area of Composite Drawing only. At this time, the IAI does not have a certification program for Facial Reconstruction.

See www.theiai.org/certifications/artist/index.html for details

Can I come to your studio and do an internship?
No. I do not offer mentoring or internship programs.
