KTT's FAQs

Karen T. Taylor

What are the prerequisites for your forensic art workshops?

There are no absolute prerequisites for the workshops. It is, however, beneficial to have some natural drawing ability. Previous art training is certainly beneficial. People enter the forensic art field from various directions and must seek training to augment their personal experience. Depending on which art specialty practitioners choose, their education should be geared accordingly.
Forensic Art: Advanced 2D Identification Techniques is not an advanced composite drawing course. The course is designed to focus on useful forensic art techniques other than composite drawing. For this reason, I do not require the Forensic Art: Comprehensive Composite Drawing workshop as a prerequisite. The advanced class does include the method of 2D facial reconstruction, which is based on the same data and techniques used in the 3D method of facial reconstruction sculpture. For this reason, I suggest that students take Betty Pat. Gatliff’s Forensic Art: Basic Facial Reconstruction Sculpture class before my advanced class, though it is not an absolute requirement.

Will attending the forensic art workshops certify me as a Composite Artist or Facial Reconstruction Specialist?

No. At the end of the workshops, you are given a Certificate of Attendance, which only means that you have successfully completed a 5-day workshop with me at the stated location and on the stated dates. The only professional certification that exists in the field of forensic art, under the auspices of a professional organization, is with the International Association for Identification (IAI). The IAI certification in Forensic Art is for the area of Composite Drawing only. At this time, the IAI does not have a certification program for Facial Reconstruction.

See www.theiai.org/certifications/artist/index.html for details

Can I come to your studio and do an internship?
No. I do not offer mentoring or internship programs.
